Governor JB Pritzker crisscrossed the City of Chicago and suburbs the final weekend before Election Day, not taking aim at his Republican opponent, but at President Donald Trump.
Pritzker is a heavy favorite to become the first Democrat in state history to win a third term Tuesday over underfunded conservative Republican nominee Darren Bailey.
In a packed bar with northside Democrats Sunday night, Pritzker didn’t even mention Bailey.
“Even if we take the House and the Senate on Tuesday, we have 27 more months of dealing with Donald Trump. But we have to get ourselves in a position of power, of putting people in office in Washington, DC and in the Statehouse who are not gonna take Donald Trump’s attacks and that are going to wield power, negotiate with him, push back, fight back,” Pritzker said. “There are only two teams now in this country, and I’m not talking about Democratic or Republican. I’m talking about team fight or team cave.”
The billionaire Pritzker has invested around $90 million of his personal wealth into his re-election campaign to fill television airwaves and mailboxes while Bailey’s campaign has never picked up enough fundraising or momentum to air a single ad in the cycle.
Pritzker did not take questions from reporters Sunday night.
