Multiple sources say Illinois Republican Party Chair Kathy Salvi has told some members of the GOP’s State Central Committee that she plans to resign her post shortly after the Illinois State Fair.

Salvi took over as chair shortly before last year’s Illinois State Fair, replacing Don Tracy, who resigned after repeated battles with the central committee.

Salvi, who ran for U.S. Senate in 2022, has had a mixed record as party chair so far, with some Republicans happy with the party’s fundraising totals while others are critical of the state GOP for its perceived chaos, disunity, and Salvi’s struggles in media appearances.

Salvi did not return a message from The Illinoize.

“She has said she doesn’t want the job anymore,” one source familiar with Salvi’s plans told The Illinoize. “What good does it do her to keep spinning her wheels with a bunch of factions in the party who are always at war?”

It isn’t clear when Salvi will resign or if she will stay in the post until a successor is chosen. As news has begun to circulate in top Republican circles, very few names of potential successors are being floated.
