Ted Dabrowski, a longtime Illinois Policy Institute staffer, President of the conservative “Wirepoints” website, and conservative activist, officially entered the race for Governor Friday in a short and slightly awkward campaign event in front of his home in suburban Wilmette.

Dabrowski attempted to position himself as the outsider in the race.

“While I’m not from the political system, I know the system. I know the players. I know how the sausage is made and why it tastes so bad,” he said. “And I know that if we don’t revitalize the Republican Party with strong executive leadership, we cannot resuscitate the state of Illinois.”

Dabrowski introduced his running mate, Emergency Room physician Carrie Mendoza, but she did not speak and was not made available to reporters.

Mendoza appears to have made anti-trans comments and has advocated for banning of books at her local library district.

Dabrowski has reported raising over $800,000 in large donations in recent days, He claimed he’ll have the financial resources to win.

“I’m very aware of the skepticism about the Republican Party’s prospects and Illinois’ future. But we have a strong team, and we are and will be well funded,” Dabrowski said.

The only other major Republican to announce a campaign for Governor so far is DuPage County Sheriff Jim Mendrick. Former State Senator and 2022 GOP gubernatorial nominee Darren Bailey is expected to enter the race next week.
