The general consensus, even among Republicans is that Don Tracy is a heavy underdog in the U.S. Senate race against whichever Democrat emerges, but Tracy is trying to signal he's serious about making the race competitive.
Tracy's campaign announced Wednesday he's putting $2 million of his own money into his U.S. Senate effort.
"This shows how committed I am to winning this race so all of Illinois has a leader working for them to lower the cost-of-living and defend our Midwestern values," said Tracy in a release. "I’ve spent my career fighting for Illinois working families and I’m ready to take that fight to Washington."
The $2 million figure still pales in comparison to the $20-plus million in the bank for Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. It immediately puts him in the same ballpark as the other two major Dems, Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton and Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-Matteson). But some GOP insiders say the cash may signal to Republican donors that it’s time to get in the game.
