Rosenthal to Run for House

Former Rep. Wayne Rosenthal says he’ll run for the House seat being vacated by Rep. Avery Bourne (R-Morrisonville), who is running for Lt. Governor.

Former Rep. Wayne Rosenthal, who had previously announced a run for State Senate against incumbent Sen. Steve McClure (R-Springfield) told The Illinoize Monday he’ll announce Tuesday he’s running for his old seat.

Rosenthal was State Representative from Morrisonville from 2011-2015 and left the General Assembly to serve as then Governor Bruce Rauner’s Director of the Department of Natural Resources.

Rep. Avery Bourne (R-Morrisonville) can’t seek her House seat and the Lt. Governor position at the same time, so Rosenthal will run for the new 108th district. Fittingly, Bourne replaced Rosenthal in the House in 2015.

Rosenthal is a farmer and retired Brigadier General in the Air National Guard. The new district Bourne is vacating runs from the Macoupin/Madison County line north wrapping around Springfield, picking up parts of Sangamon, Christian, and Montgomery counties as well as all of Menard County. The district is heavily Republican.
