Rep. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines), who already engineered a petition bait-and-switch to install his Chief of Staff, Justin Cochran, in his seat, will resign later this month.
Moylan sent his resignation letter to the House Clerk yesterday, House Democrats confirm. His last day in the House will be December 16.
Moylan has been dealing with health issues, and around the time he pulled off the ballot in early November, he insinuated he would resign sometime after the first of the year. That turned out not to be the case.
Moylan did not return a message Friday.
Cochran is widely expected to be appointed to the seat he's running unopposed for in the primary.
Republicans believe they have an outside chance of making the race competitive with their candidate, Joseph Johnson, though Trump is surely a GOP drag in the district.
