The names of some Illinois lawmakers appeared on documents belonging to the man accused of assassinating a Minnesota lawmaker and attempting to kill another.
Governor JB Pritzker Monday described documents belonging to Vance Boelter as having a “hodge podge” of names of politicians, some of which included politicians from Illinois.
“No, there is not a hit list that has Illinois politicians on it,” Pritzker said Monday morning at a news conference after signing the state budget into law. “There was a list that was in the car that was recovered before they arrested the perpetrator. That list was referred to as a ‘hit list.’ It had Minnesota politicians, as I understand it, on it. About 70 of them.”
But a State Police spokesperson said Minnesota officials did provide some evidence with Illinois lawmakers names to the agency.
“ISP is vetting information found among the suspect's property, and provided to ISP by Minnesota and federal law enforcement agencies, as it relates to names of Illinois elected officials, potentially in both paper and electronic form. ISP will continue to communicate with Illinois legislators as additional information is available and assessed,” spokesperson Melaney Arnold said in a statement.
State Police did not release the names of lawmakers included in the documents.
Pritzker said he spoke with FBI and Illinois State Police and Gov. Tim Walz
Pritzker said he did not appear on any of the hit list documents.
“As I understand, I was not on that list.”
A spokesperson for House Democrats told the Chicago Tribune it appeared the names of some House Democrats appeared in the documents.
