Attorney Tracy Katz Muhl was appointed Thursday night to replace former Rep. Jonathan Carroll in the House. Carroll resigned last Friday.

Rep. Katz Muhl (D-Northbrook), was the only candidate in the race to replace Carroll, who wasn’t seeking re-election. Katz Muhl is the Northfield Township committeeperson, so she essentially had the votes to appoint herself.

From the Journal & Topics:

A crowd estimated at 150 people packed a room Thursday at the Northbrook Public Library for a meeting of four Democratic Party leaders within the 57th State House District who voted unanimously to appoint Tracy Katz Muhl to fill the district’s vacant seat.

The group, which included many elected officials, then walked next door to Northbrook Village Hall where Katz Muhl thanked supporters and was sworn into office by Judge Mike Hymen, who lives in the district.

“I’m honored to represent my hometown (Northbrook) I moved to when I was 3,” Katz Muhl said after taking the oath. The 57th District includes parts of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Glencoe, Glenview, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, Northfield, Riverwoods, Wheeling, Wilmette, and Winnetka.

Katz Muhl is unopposed in the March primary and (so far) in the November general election.
