Suburban businessman Rick Heidner appears to have easily cleared the 5,000 signature minimum to get on the Republican ballot for Governor. He appears to have filed over 16,000 total signatures.

Heidner and running mate Christina Neitzke-Troike, the Mayor of Homer Glen, submitted petitions to get on the ballot late Monday hours before the filing deadline.

The quality of the signatures isn’t yet known, though many of the circulators appear to be from out of state.

Heidner soft launched his campaign about 10 days ago to get enough signatures to get ballot access. It isn’t clear yet if Heidner will face any petition challenges.

Republicans Joe Severino and Max Solomon also filed petitions just before Monday’s deadline. A Democrat named Patricia Tillman filed petitions to challenge Governor JB Pritzker in the Democratic primary.
