Rep. Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) got her long-awaited primary challenge Tuesday.

Josh Higgins, a veteran, school board member, and insurance salesman from Biggsville, announced he’ll be challenging Hammond next spring. Higgins is the recruit of former Attorney General candidate Tom DeVore, who has attempted to recruit primary candidates against House GOP Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) and some of her top lieutenants.

It isn’t clear how much financial backing DeVore will be able to provide his candidate. His “RINO Removal PAC” filed with around $7,000 in the bank in July, and did not report any large donations in the third quarter.

Hammond, the House GOP’s top budget negotiator, was elected to the House in 2010.
