Rep. Jackie Haas (R-Bourbonnais), a well liked member of House GOP leadership, announced Monday doctors found and removed a malignant tumor in her neck.
In a statement, Haas said she found a lump on her neck behind her right ear.
“I went to the doctor, who ordered further testing and referred me to a specialist. After additional evaluation, surgery was recommended and I’ve since undergone that procedure successfully,” Haas said. “Following the biopsy, I learned that the tumor was malignant, and I will soon begin proactive radiation treatments.”
In a text message Monday afternoon, Haas said she’s optimistic.
“Prognosis is good,” she said.
Haas, 59, is a social worker by trade. She has served in the House since 2020. She is currently an Assistant Republican Leader.
She is seeking re-election and faces former Kankakee County Board member Robert Ellington-Snipes.
