In a statement Friday morning, former State Representative and 2022 GOP nominee for Secretary of State Dan Brady says he’s taking a pass on two races he was considering in 2024.

Brady was considering a challenge to freshman Congressman Eric Sorensen (D-Moline) in the 17th Congressional district or seeking his old seat in the House, the 88th District, which is being vacated by Rep. Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur).

“My style of public service has been driven by service to my constituents and that has become lost in today’s political rhetoric, where politics by personal destruction has become the norm,” Brady said in a statement.

Galesburg businessman Ray Estrada is now the lone announced GOP candidate in the 17th. Former congressional candidate Regan Deering has announced her campaign in the 88th House District, though McLean County Board member Chuck Erickson could follow after Brady’s announcement.

Brady says he will continue to focus on his funeral home business.
