Finance Authority Chief Recommended as Next Auditor General

Chris Meister, the longtime Executive Director of the Illinois Finance Authority, has been recommended by the bicameral, bipartisan Legislative Audit Commission as the new Illinois Auditor General.
Meister has been Executive Director of IFA, a provider of low-cost capital to spur economic development and job retention around the state since 2009 and served as the agency’s General Counsel before that.
He would replace Auditor General Frank Mautino, a former state representative who did not seek a second 10-year-term in the position.
The Auditor General is a constitutional officer that studies and reports on the actions of state government and performs numerous statutory financial audits.
Meister was recommended unanimously by the Audit Commission and must be approved for the role by a full vote in the House and Senate.
Rep. Natalie Manley (D-Joliet) appeared interested in the job last year, but wasn’t among the finalists. Meister was apparently chosen from a group of five finalists after a nationwide search.
