DeWitte Being Treated for Prostate Cancer
Sen. Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles).
Sen. Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles) announced Monday he had surgery for a form of prostate cancer shortly before Christmas.
DeWitte, who is not seeking re-election this year, said he was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma, a form of prostate cancer, and the presence of some aggressive cancer cells led to the decision to have surgery December 23 at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago.
“The good news is that because of early detection, and the fact that the cancer never had a chance to spread, my prognosis is excellent,” DeWitte said in a statement. “The surgical resolution puts me at 99% cured. The remaining 1% will be continued blood monitoring of PSA and other normal maintenance, with no chemo or radiation follow-up therapy anticipated.”
DeWitte is recuperating with family out of state and says he plans to return to Springfield in mid-February.
